Utility System Operator

There are (2) two positions available.

The Yadkin Valley Sewer Authority has a job opening for a Utility System Operator.  The purpose of this position is to perform semi-skilled manual labor in a variety of construction, repair, and maintenance assignments on sewer lines, pump stations, and the Wastewater Treatment Plant. 

Among other tasks, this position will maintain and repair sewer lines, manholes, and pump stations, operate sewer jetter and power vacuum equipment to unclog sewer mains and laterals, use detector for  confined space gas monitoring, mow right-of-ways and pump stations, use sewer camera systems and locator to access condition and establish position of pipe, mark location of sewer lines for 811, provide information to keep GIS map of sewer system updated, install new sewer lateral taps and cleanouts, perform general maintenance and upkeep of Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Equipment operated may include jetter, vacuum excavator, backhoe, mini excavator, tractor, compact track loader, dump truck, crane truck, jack hammer, plate compactor and tamping ram, sewer camera with lateral launch, assortment of power and hand tools, computer, GIS and SCADA systems.

This position must be able to work in adverse weather conditions and is subject to call-back for after hour work as needed, and occasional weekend work.  Position requires serving in a rotation of being on-call for a 7-day period, approximately once per month.  Maintenance and repair work may require confined space entry and work in trenched area.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED and the ability to obtain a Grade 1 Collections Certification within 24 months.  One to two years previous experience and/or training involving sewer system maintenance or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is preferable.  This position must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds for an extended period of time, occasionally lift up to 100 pounds, possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License, and successfully pass a pre-employment drug test.  Beginning salary range for this position is $16.10 to $17.51 per hour, depending on qualifications.
