Wastewater Treatment Plant Trainee

      This position works under immediate supervision, performing routine tasks in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant, lift stations and related facilities. Duties include regular inspections of the watewater treatment plant, facilities and lift stations to ascertain that they are in proper operating condition. Other duties include collection samples for laboratory tests, preparing and collecting data to be submitted to state and federal authorities; assisting in minor repairs to equipment; and reading meters, gauges, dials and keeping logs of such readings.

      Some knowledge of wastewater treatment principles and operating practices preferred. Ability to learn to preform basic laboratory test and acquire working knowledge of federal, state and local laws relating to wastewater. Graduation from standard high school with courses in chemistry, biology and math. Requires light to moderate physical activity and exposure to varied weather conditions. Must possess a valid NC driver's license. Must be able to obtain a Grade "I" Wastewater Operator's Certificate within 18 months.
