WATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR I

Position Overview

Full Time (40 Hours/week), entry level position, performs a variety of operational, laboratory, and maintenance duties designed to produce safe treatment of water. Water Treatment Plant operates up to 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and work is performed on an assigned rotating shift.

Key Responsibilities

Work includes monitoring the plant’s operation through observation, mechanical readings and the results of standard chemical and biological tests and to make necessary adjustments in the process as conditions or test results dictate. Other duties include performing standard laboratory duties and tests and assisting with plant and facilities maintenance. Work also includes substantial record keeping of work activities.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent and some experience in the operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment, preferably in a water or wastewater plant.

Licensure and Certification

Ability to successfully complete the training for a Water Operator’s Grade C Surface Certificate within six months of employment and pass the exam for the same within twelve months. Requires possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Salary Range

The salary range for fully qualified candidates is $44,925 - $66,318 annually. The expected starting salary for trainees not possessing a water operator’s Grade C Surface Certificate is $42,786. There is an expected increase after satisfactorily completing the probationary period.
