The North Carolina Rural Water Association (NCRWA) is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable Energy Efficiency Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will conduct on-site energy assessments for rural and small community water and wastewater systems across North Carolina. Your mission will be to identify opportunities to optimize energy use and help systems implement best practices for efficient and cost-effective operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform in-depth energy audits of water and wastewater utility systems
  • Provide practical, actionable recommendations to improve energy efficiency
  • Collaborate with system operators, managers, and stakeholders to support implementation
  • Prepare reports and deliver presentations to technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma required; college degree or certifications in energy, utilities, or related fields strongly preferred
  • Experience:
    • At least 3 years of experience in energy assessments, energy efficiency, or utility operations preferred
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of electric motors, pumps, controls, and electrical systems
    • Ability to troubleshoot and assess mechanical and electrical components in utility systems
    • Familiarity with water and wastewater system management, public finance, and regulatory compliance is a plus
  • Computer Proficiency:
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and general internet and email usage
  • Communication & Training:

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Comfortable delivering presentations and training sessions to industry professionals and the public

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout the state, including overnight stays
  • Must be able to attend a minimum of three events annually that require overnight stays and travel to other states
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
