Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator 1
Position Overview
Full Time (40 Hours/week), entry level position in a Wastewater Treatment Plant, performs a variety of operational, laboratory, and maintenance duties designed to produce safe treatment of domestic and commercial waste materials. Work is performed on an assigned or rotating shift.

Key Responsibilities
Work includes monitoring the plant’s operation through observation, mechanical readings and the results of standard chemical and biological tests and to make necessary adjustments in the process as conditions or test results dictate. Other duties include performing standard laboratory duties and tests and assisting with plant and facilities maintenance and cleaning. Work also includes substantial record keeping of work activities.
Education and Experience
Required High School diploma or equivalent and some experience in the maintenance of machinery and equipment, preferably in a water or wastewater plant.
Licensure and Certification
Possess a North Carolina Grade 1 Wastewater Operator’s Certification or have the ability to successfully complete the training for a Grade I Wastewater Operator’s Certificate within 6 months of employment and pass the exam for the same within twelve months. Requires possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Salary Range
The salary range for fully qualified candidates is $44,925 - $66,318 annually, additional salary consideration will be given for candidates possessing a North Carolina Grade 2 or above Wastewater Operator’s Certification. The expected starting salary for trainees not possessing a Grade I Wastewater Operator’s Certificate is $42,786. There is an expected increase after satisfactorily completing the probationary period.
