Wastewater Specialist

The North Carolina Rural Water Association (NCRWA) is seeking a skilled and motivated Wastewater Specialist to provide technical, financial, and organizational assistance to rural wastewater systems across North Carolina.

This is an independent role suited for a professional who can manage their own schedule, travel throughout North Carolina, and work directly with wastewater systems to solve problems, improve operations, and support compliance with regulatory requirements.

What we are looking for:

• Minimum of five (5) years of proven experience in wastewater system management, treatment, and/or collections
• Possession of Wastewater Operator certifications preferred; degrees in related fields considered
• Strong knowledge of wastewater system regulations, needs, and methodologies
• Familiarity with management, accounting, and public finance principles
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, email, and online research
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to develop and deliver effective industry training
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience facilitating community meetings
• Ability to manage travel budget and weekly work schedule independently
• A valid North Carolina Driver’s License and reliable transportation (required)
• Willingness to travel extensively across the state, including overnight stays
• Attendance at out-of-state conferences and trainings (typically two separate weeks per year)
