General Statement of Duties
Performs difficult technical work leading and participating in the maintenance and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection lines for the City.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class is responsible for leading a crew involved in maintaining and repairing water distribution and sewer collection lines and appurtenances, operating heavy equipment and performing duties of Utility Line Technicians. Work involves coordination with management in work assignment and assuring work is completed in timely manner and in accordance with OSHA and City standards. The employee provides training, performance coaching, and reviewing work in progress and upon completion for quality and standards. Work includes skilled operation of medium to heavy construction equipment. Work requires ability to lead a crew, and judgment and initiative in troubleshooting water and sewer line maintenance and repair problems. The employee is subject to working in inside and outside environments including extreme hot and cold weather and is exposed to hazards such as loud noise, vibrations, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, fumes, odors, poor ventilation, and oils. Work around raw sewage is also subject to the final standards of OSHA on blood borne pathogens. The employee may also be subject to standby and call back work. Work is performed under regular supervision in conformance with established standards, and is reviewed for productivity quality, and customer service satisfaction.
