(Water Quality Department – Division of Water Resources)
An employee in this class is responsible for the performance of specialized analyses of
water and wastewater to ensure the treatment is in accordance with all Federal, State, and
Local enforcement regulations and guidelines. This employee will specialize in metal
analyses, utilizing Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy- Furnace (AA – Furnace), Atomic
Absorption Spectroscopy- Flame (AA – Flame), and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy- Flow
Injection Mercury System (AA – FIMS) instrumentation. This employee must exercise
initiative and independently work under the regular supervision of the Water Quality
Manager and Assistant Water Quality Manager. An employee in this position participates in
a mandatory Water Quality on-call rotation schedule to assist the Systems Maintenance
and Water/Sewer Maintenance Departments in collection, testing, assessment, and
reporting required by the State and Federal government.
Minimum Experience and Training
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in the field of chemistry or
biology, and considerable experience in laboratory analyses or an equivalent combination
of experience and training.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 20 to 50 pounds. Perform periods of sitting, standing, and stooping. Use
of tools, equipment, and a microscope. Ability to distinguish between shades of color.
Exposed to pathogens, chemicals, fumes, noise, and odors. Will work outdoors in varying
weather conditions.
