The Town of Aurora is seeking an experienced, motivated, and forward‑thinking Public Works Director to lead and manage all operations within the Public Works Department. This role oversees water distribution, wastewater, streets, facilities, fleet, and infrastructure maintenance.
Candidates must hold valid North Carolina B-Well and B-Distribution certifications (or be able to obtain them within a defined timeframe).
- Provide leadership and strategic direction for all Public Works divisions.
- Oversee operation and maintenance of the municipal water system, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Supervise staff, manage schedules, and coordinate training and development.
- Prepare and manage departmental budgets, capital improvement plans, and long‑term infrastructure strategies.
- Ensure proper operation of water treatment, distribution, and well systems.
- Coordinate with state regulatory agencies and maintain required reporting.
- Respond to emergencies, infrastructure failures, and weather‑related events.
- Maintain strong communication with city leadership, contractors, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, public administration, environmental science, or related field preferred.
- North Carolina B-Well and B-Distribution certifications required (or ability to obtain within [X] months).
- Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in public works, utilities, or infrastructure management.
- Supervisory or management experience strongly preferred.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- Strong knowledge of water system operations, regulatory compliance, and safety standards.
