Position Overview

The Town of Mocksville and Veolia is seeking an experienced and dedicated Public Utilities Supervisor to oversee and participate in the daily operations and management of the Town’s water distribution system, wastewater collection system, and wastewater treatment facility. This leadership role is responsible for supervising and managing staff, maintaining critical infrastructure, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering reliable water and wastewater services to the community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee operation and maintenance of the municipal water distribution system, wastewater collection system, and wastewater treatment facility, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Supervise staff, manage schedules, and coordinate training and development
  • Respond to emergencies, infrastructure failures, and weather‑related events
  • Ensure OSHA and safety regulation compliance
  • Investigate customer complaints and resolve service issues
  • Prepare operational reports, maintenance logs, and performance metrics
  • Manage departmental budget
  • Maintain strong communication with company and Town leadership, contractors, and the public
  • Coordinate with state regulatory agencies and maintain required reporting

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience and comprehensive knowledge of wastewater collection system, water distribution system and wastewater treatment processes
  • 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience
  • Grade A Water Distribution System Operator Certification
  • Grade II or higher Certification in Collection System Operations
  • Wastewater Certification
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record
  • Strong understanding of OSHA safety standards and workplace safety
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with computer systems and utility management software
