Summary

This position is responsible for performing semi-skilled work in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

NOTE: Employee may be required to respond to a disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Statesville and meet the needs of the organization, which may result in the assignment of other duties and take precedence over duties described in this job description.   • Conducts regular tours of the plant, equipment, and adjacent buildings.
  • Monitors and records readings from gauges, meters, control panels, and other instruments.
  • Conducts frequent equipment checks.
  • Regulates and adjusts motors, pumps, blowers, valves, and other apparatuses to meet changing operating conditions.
  • Performs various tests.
  • Operates dewatering press, changes disk charts.
  • Pumps sludge, drains tanks, cleans clarifiers, and skims grease from settling tanks.
  • Cleans and services pumps, motors, and other equipment.
  • Makes minor or emergency repairs; performs minor preventive maintenance on plant equipment.
  • Performs general plant maintenance and cleaning duties.
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures in performing duties.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Experience

Operator I

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possession of a valid NC Wastewater Treatment Operator I certification.
  • Ability to obtain a NC Wastewater Treatment Operator II certification (within 18 months of promotion).

Operator II

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possession of a valid NC Wastewater Treatment Operator II certification.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in the operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment in a wastewater treatment plant.

Operator III

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possession of a valid NC Wastewater Treatment Operator III certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment in a wastewater treatment plant.

Operator IV

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Possession of a valid NC Wastewater Treatment Operator IV certification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment in a wastewater treatment plant.

Requirements

Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license, or any valid driver’s license with ability to obtain a North Carolina driver’s license within 60 days of establishing a permanent residence in North Carolina.
